RHAC-Uganda’s Girls’ Education Programme is dedicated to removing the barriers that prevent girls from accessing, remaining in, and completing quality education. The programme recognizes that many girls face challenges such as poverty, harmful cultural practices, gender-based violence, conflict, and inadequate school facilities, all of which limit their opportunities to learn and reach their full potential.

Through the “The Brighter Future Starts at School” initiative, RHAC-Uganda works with communities, schools, and partners to create an enabling environment where every girl has the opportunity to receive a quality education.

In Uganda, every academic year it is estimated:

788,000

girls enroll in Primary 1

253,275

girls reach Secondary 4

Closing the Gap, Creating Opportunities

This program aims to close the gap and ensure more girls complete their education and achieve their dreams.

OUR AREAS OF INTERVENTION

HEALTHY HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

We improve indoor air quality and strengthens Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in healthcare facilities. Through better ventilation, hygiene, environmental cleaning, waste management, and infection prevention practices, we help create safer healthcare environments that protect patients, caregivers, and health workers.

SCHOOL WASH PROGRAMME

We promote healthy learning environments by improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in schools. Through hygiene education, handwashing, menstrual hygiene support, WASH clubs, and clean school initiatives, we empower learners with lifelong healthy behaviours and create safer, more inclusive schools.

Community-Based Hygiene Promotion

We promote healthy communities through hygiene education, sanitation awareness, safe water practices, handwashing, waste management, and community engagement. Working with local leaders and Village Health Teams, we empower families to adopt healthy behaviours that prevent disease and improve public health.

WASH FOR PALLIATIVE CARE

We integrate WASH into home-based palliative care to promote hygiene, infection prevention, and safe caregiving. Through caregiver education, hygiene supplies, safe water practices, and household sanitation, we improve comfort, protect vulnerable patients, and support dignified care at home.
